Removing Company Details

Can I remove my company from your database?

Our website carries details of all UK limited companies. These details are publicly available from The Registrar of Companies and in certain cases also The Registry Trust. This data is not subject to the Data Protection Act. You can read our Company Listing Policy here.

While we understand some companies have reservations about being listed, we carry no information that is not available elsewhere in the public domain and therefore we cannot remove or change data on our website unless it is inaccurate. In the unlikely event that any details are inaccurate, please contact us.

How can i stop disclosure of my address?

You may be able to restrict the disclosure of your address if:

  • you are an individual who is, or proposes to be, an officer of a company, limited liability partnership or overseas company; and
  • you (or a person who lives with you) are at serious risk of violence or intimidation as a result of the activities of a company, limited liability partnership or overseas company of which you are, or propose to be, an officer; or
  • you are a person who registered a charge and you or your employees (or a person who lives with either you or your employees) are at serious risk of violence or intimidation as a result of the activities of a company or limited liability partnership for which you registered a charge; or
  • you act as an adviser to a company, limited liability partnership or overseas company; and
  • the officers (or a person who lives with them) of that company, limited liability partnership or overseas company are at serious risk of violence or intimidation as a result of its activities.

A listed company was dissolved and the name now belongs to my business. Can you remove the old company?

No. When a company is dissolved, the name becomes available for use by  a new business, however the existence of the old company must remain on record. All our data comes through via a feed from Companies House, this is the same for all other credit reporting agencies. Companies are officially identified by company number not by name.

Can historical data be removed from your database?

All data held by us regarding directors comes direct from Companies House, the UK registrar.

The Registrar is required by the Companies Act to keep records of information delivered to him under any enactment and to make that information available for public inspection. The Registrar has no powers under law to remove documents from the public register and this means that any information filed at Companies House cannot be removed from the public record, even historic information.

I am receiving post for a company which used to be based at my address. How do i stop this?

One way we would suggest is to register with the Mail Preference Service (MPS) via www.mpsonline.org.uk

Registering with the mail preference service, which is a free service funded by the direct mail industry can be done by writing to the address below and takes about a month to take effect:

Mail Preference Service (MPS)
DMA House
70 Margaret Street
London
