Office of Fair Trading

The Office of Fair Trading or OFT established by the Fair Trading Act 1973, enforces both consumer protection and competition law, acting as the UK's economic regulator.

The OFT's goal is to make markets work well for consumers, ensuring vigorous competition between fair dealing businesses and prohibiting unfair practices such as rogue trading, scams and cartels.

Citizens Advice Bureau

The Citizens Advice Bureau or CAB is one of a network of independent charities that give free, confidential information and advice to help people sort out their money, legal, consumer and other problems.

The aims of the CAB service is to ensure that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, the services which are available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively. Trained advisers can help write letters, make phone calls, negotiate with creditors and take cases to tribunals and court.

Its primary aim is helping people by investigating their problems, exploring and explaining their options, and where appropriate helping to contact and deal with the relevant officials and organisations.

The Financial Services Authority or FSA regulates the financial services industry in the UK.

When acting as the competent authority for listing of shares on a stock exchange, it is referred to as the UK Listing Authority (UKLA), and maintains the Official list.
